What is it that sets a successful project apart among the 37% to 45% of projects doomed for failure?
It is not a team made up of world-class professionals or wealthy clients. It doesn’t have a long timeline nor a large budget.
A project plan that is flexible and clear will ensure a successful project. (click to Tweet) A project plan is a strategic tool that helps you manage a project within its scope, budget, and timeframe.
It is what you will use to guide your team in completing project milestones, tasks, and goals. It informs clients about the requirements, risks, and how to navigate these events to complete the project.
No matter what industry you work in, a project plan will help you and your team get from Point A through Point Z.
How to create a project planning that people love to read
You must approach a project plan as more than a long, boring document in order to make it effective.
This piece of paper is integral to the success of your project if you view it as a key component.
To create a great project planning document, you must first make sure it is written in a way that clients and colleagues will enjoy reading it.
Your project plan should be more than just a design with fancy fonts. It should also communicate the information your clients and teammates need to know about it. This could include:
Deliverables
The project timeline/s
The project team members
The possible risks and changes that could occur during the project, etc.
Four core questions you should ask when creating a project plan
This can be done in many ways. It should answer these four core questions at the end of it all:
Core question #1: What are the main deliverables?
This question forces you be clear about your goals when you embark on this project. This question can also be used to verify that you and your team are within the scope of the project and that each step leads to these deliverables.
Core question #2: How can we get to those deliverables by the deadline?
This question requires that you think strategically in order to create or attain these major deliverables on schedule and within budget.
You may want to look deeper to determine if there are any changes or risks that could affect your ability meet these requirements. These events can be avoided by finding solutions and staying on track.
No matter what industry you work in, a project plan will help you and your team get from Point A through Point Z. You can use tools like gantt charts to ensure you finish projects on time and within budget.
Core question #3: Who will be on the project team?
This question addresses an important aspect of any project: Who will you bring on board to help complete the project?
It is important to know who your team members are, how they work and what their roles are. A RACI chart will help you make sure everyone is clear about their responsibilities throughout the project.
Core question #4: When will the team reach milestones and when will other team members play a part in providing feedback or contributing to those deliverables?
This question should be answered by your project timeline. This is where you will set the deadlines for each milestone and decide when the team will meet to discuss progress and update. Also, this will determine who will work on and provide feedback for specific deliverables.
Be prepared.
These four core questions will ensure that you have considered all the important details of your project before you dive in. This helps you avoid project disaster and keeps you and the team on track.
Let these questions motivate and inspire you to create your free project plan now!
The easiest way to create a home is by building it.

Ever feel like your communications aren’t achieving their potential? It happens to all of us, especially if your message is reaching a large audience.
Projects are made up people with different personalities. It is your responsibility as a project leader to ensure that your message reaches all members of the team. To do this well, you must know the people you are working with to be able to cater to their communication style.
Understanding the differences between communicators and how you can communicate with them effectively is key to your success.
Use a personal communication approach to build trust.
Find ways to get your message across to any person or group
Establish communication methods that work for everyone by working with your team
Identify communication problems and find alternate methods or modes of communication
Relax knowing that you are doing all you can to communicate effectively
Let’s take a look below at four communication styles that you might find in your team. These styles were created by Mark Murphy, a New York Times bestseller and leadership guru. This construct was developed by Murphy after a decade of research on interpersonal communication. It allows you to understand your communication style and compare it with others.
Communication style #1: Analytical
Analytical communicators are able to communicate facts and not emotions. They are drawn to concrete data and numbers, and dislike things that aren’t clear. They trust people who can understand facts and don’t care about how you got to your data.
The analytical communication style shines
Analytical communicators are business-oriented, and tend to have a very unflinching view of the world. They can use logic and data to solve problems and make decisions.
Many colleagues look to analytical communicators to gain informational expertise and objectivity. Their focus on facts allows them to remain neutral in all situations.
What to know about analytical communicators
Analytical communicators don’t listen to emotions. They are so dependent on data that they will quickly lose trust if you don’t have a solid grasp of the facts.
This communication style can be perceived as indifferent or rude in situations that would otherwise require emotional intelligence. Analytical communicators are not incapable of feeling emotions. They are more focused on achieving a goal and prefer to keep interpersonal or communication issues separate.
How to speak the language of an analytical communicator
Focus on facts and data that support your points.
Use clear, concise and logical language.
You should be prepared with facts to support any argument, proposal, or idea that you present to them. Cite and quote other sources when you communicate in writing.
Don’t push for immediate decisions. Give them time to process the data and present your data.
If possible, present your ideas and arguments with options for possible results.
You should be prepared to answer questions and possibly even anticipate them so you can bring well-thought out answers to the table.
These people are great for building relationships.
Communication style #2: Intuitive
Intuitive communicators don’t get lost in the details. They prefer to see the bigger picture so they can get straight to the point. They are quick to make decisions because they don’t need to overanalyze or get overwhelmed easily.
The intuitive communication style shines
Intuitive communicators can see the bigger picture and understand opportunities and challenges. They are quick to act. They are great innovators because of their ability to see the big picture and challenge the status quo.
Intuition: What should you know?

Remote project managers are a great alternative to being a project manager. Remote project managers are those who have people working remotely as part of their team. Remote project managers are like having blindfolds on, one arm tied behind your back, and walking backwards up the stairs. Or dairy.
It’s not that difficult. It’s not easy.
There are many pitfalls and potential mistakes.
The plot thickens when remote employees start to fall asleep while you are awake (and vice versa), and remote employees may be from different cultures. Some remote employees work with more than one manager, or in more than one business.
Do not be afraid
These are the most common mistakes. They’re all yours. They’re mine. We all have stories to tell. Here are some common mistakes that people make and how to avoid them.
1. You forgot about that…uh…what’s the name of that one guy?
“I believe he’s in South Carolina. Maybe. Or was it North Carolina Or was it Daniel or David?
Yep. That’s me. You forgot about me.
(I speak from personal experience.)
This is a simple mistake. You forgot about remote workers. You’re not in the right place at the right time.
This can easily happen when a team is large and dispersed. It’s more likely to happen if there is no clear management or communication protocol.
This is the same point made by Quickbase in an article:
Managers make mistakes when managing remote workers. They forget about them. Once you’ve gotten over the fact that the person isn’t in the office, you don’t give them much thought other than sending an email asking for information about a project. It would be rude and strange if you behaved that way with an office worker. One survey found that remote workers cited “lack of direct communications” as the greatest challenge.
Image Source: The lack of communication can lead to forgetting that someone is there. Depending on the role of remote workers, their work style and contributions, the consequences can be severe.
How can you avoid making this mistake? You can avoid this mistake by creating a communication plan and committing to communicating with each remote worker at least once per week.
2. You don’t have to ask them for their input.
Imagine a meeting. Imagine you’re at a conference table. Joe is across from you. Joe speaks to you. Joe, tell me what you think. Can you give us your suggestion?”
Joe contributes his thoughts. Joe feels part of the team. Joe feels valued, included, and collaborative.
Imagine another meeting. Imagine you’re at a conference table and your phone is in the middle.
Joe is not your friend. You don’t ask Joe for his input.
It’s weird. It’s awkward. It’s a completely different situation. It’s a different situation. You don’t have the same level or nonverbals of rapport and give-and-take as you do in person.
You also lose something valuable: Joe’s input.
Remote workers are just as important as any other team member’s input. Remote workers may be able to provide better input in some cases because they have a different perspective.
Remote workers are often left out of the company culture and vibe, which is one of the obvious disadvantages to working remotely. This “disadvantage”, however, could actually be a positive thing.
Why?
Companies cultures can encourage unhealthy groupthink. Remote workers are completely removed from this. She doesn’t hear the same chatter, read the same motivational posters, feel the same pressure, and get the same hairy eyes.
She is able to think independently and contributes in a different manner. Don’t discount the contribution of remote workers. Their distance is a benefit

Remote work existed before the advent of social media and telecommuting.
Tradesmen from different industries worked in what was once called “workhomes”, where their homes were used as their stores. To earn a steady income, they had to manage their properties, keep their productivity up, and build relationships between their customers.
This all changed with the Industrial Revolution. People were required to work eight-hour shifts and leave their homes. As technology advanced and innovated, the traditional system of work started to regress towards the old one.
Remote work is back
Remote work is becoming a popular option for startups, companies, as well as organizations all over the globe. Remote work allows you to create a team of professionals that spans different continents, without ever leaving your home office.
Remote teams face new challenges that can significantly impact team productivity. These are some of the issues you may be facing right now.
Information overload
Miscommunication or
Communication problems
Under-delivery
Expectations not met
Distraction
Goals missed
Remote teams can use various strategies and tips to overcome these challenges.
Although it takes time to integrate any system into a team, simple but effective productivity hacks can help you to identify what helps your team focus and get more done.
This is a great opportunity to learn about the team and the differences between the members. It also allows you to discover your unique productivity methods.
We have compiled productivity hacks that are easy to use and implement starting from Day 1. Each category focuses upon a specific aspect of remote work that can be used and/or improved upon as you build your remote team.
Focus
Time
Motivation
Communication
Automation and delegation
Category #1: Focus
Good nutrition and good sleep are key to good health. Your body is your greatest asset. It’s important to give it the nutrition it needs to be focused and productive.
Prepare yourself for work. To get in the right mindset for work, create a simple morning routine. You’ll be able focus even before you sit down at your desk if you have a clear goal.
Create a productive space. You can make your workspace brighter with white light, or keep it clutter-free. But you need to encourage focus.
Make a Today’s list. Get down to work on the items on your Today list. Anything that arises during the day can be completed later or scheduled for another Today List.
You need to turn off all notifications. It takes around 25 minutes to refocus so turn off notifications on mobile and desktop.
Take a power nap. This will give you the energy boost, creativity, mental clarity, and mental clarity that you need to power through your day.
Category #2: Time
For every task or project, set a deadline. You can even specify the time it would take to complete the task. This helps you to commit to the task instead of letting it drift in your mind. TeamGantt allows you to sync your projects with your favorite calendars like Google Calendar, iCal, and Outlook so that you are always on top of what’s coming up.
Keep track of the time you spend on each task. You will be more aware of how your time is being spent and you will be more mindful of the activities that you engage in. TeamGantt has time tracking built in for all your time tracking needs.
Use time blocks. Divide your day into blocks of time that you will only use for work. Time blocking is best illustrated by the Pomodoro(r) Technique.
RescueTime is a time management app that allows you to track your daily activities. This information will help you identify which apps and activities are consuming your precious work hours, and how to improve your work habits.

Amazon Workspaces, a new service from AWS, is now available. It provides a fully managed desktop computing service in cloud. This service has a few main uses. It provides a high-quality environment for workstations with relative ease. Imagine that you have many remote employees who log in from home. This service allows them to access AWS virtual desktops instead of having physical servers on the company premises. They can log in and do their work remotely. This is especially useful when you are training many students and need to quickly provision a computer for each student, then release it at the end. This service allows employees to use the workstations offered by the service, and not store source code/database/or other sensitive data.
Read more about it here : https://aws.amazon.com/workspaces/
What will you do with this service? Is this going to be of any use to you?

AWS Alexa
Amazon’s cloud-based voice system Alexa powers tens of millions devices, including the Echo family, FireTV, Fire Tablet and third-party devices that have Alexa built in.
Alexa Design Patterns
Adaptability – Understands and processes the user’s words. Allow users to speak in their own words.
Personalization – Recalls user interaction. Individualize entire interaction.
Availability – Keep all options open. Make your menus smaller and make sure you have all options at the top.
Relatability is the ability to have a conversation with an actual person. Talk to them, not at themAlexa Interaction ModelWakeword
Echo devices are always listening, but they are in a dormant mode. It wakes up when it hears the phrase or work called the wakeword.
Amazon offers a variety of wakewords, including ‘Amazon,’ ‘Echo,’ or ‘Computer’. The default is ‘Alexa.
These words are reserved and cannot change beyond the four options provided by developers or users.
Skills
A skill is “an app for Alexa”, however they cannot be downloaded. They just need to enabled.
You can enable a skill either through the Alexa App, or by asking Alexa for it to be enabled
Alexa supports three types skill:Custom Skills – the most common skill and allows the most control over the user experience. This skill allows you to create almost any type of skill you want.
Smart Home Skills are specifically designed to control smart home appliances. This allows for less control over the user experience but is easier to develop.
Flash Briefing Skills – specifically to be compatible with Alexa’s native ability ‘Flash Briefing. Invocation Name
An “invocation name” is the phrase or word that triggers the skill.
Only custom skill requires an invocation name.
After the skill is activated, the invocation name can’t be changed
Invocation name Requirements must not infringe on the intellectual property rights an entity or person
Must be a combination of two or more works. Names of invocations that contain only one word are not permitted, unless they are unique to the brand/intellectual properties.
Names of people and places must not be included
If two-word invocation names are used, one of the words must not be a definite or indefinite article (“the”), “an” or preposition (“for”, “to”, “about,” “up,” “by,” “off,” “with”).
You must not include any Alexa skill launch words or connecting words. Launch phrases include “run,”” “start,”,”play,”,”resume,” and “use,” as well as “use,”,” and “load,” respectively.
The wake words “Alexa”, “Amazon,” or “Echo” must not be used.
Must contain only lower-case alphabetic characters, spaces in between words, and possessive abstrophes
You must spell characters as numbers, e.g. twenty one
Invocation names that contain acronyms or abbreviations can include periods. NASA as n.
Phonemes cannot be spelled out for e.g. A skill called “AWS Facts”, would require “AWS” to be represented as “a. w. s. NOT “ay double U ess.”
Do not confuse existing Alexa features.
Each supported language must be used
To ensure that users can use the skill, they should be distinct. Invocation names that are too generic may be rejected during the skill certification process, or result in lower discoverability.Intent
An intent is the goal of a user.
Defines an action that fulfills the user’s request
Intent name requirements can only contain alphabetical characters that are case-insensitive and underscores
Numbers cannot be included
Special characters cannot be included

AWS recently added two new features to Route 53 health check, which are string matching and HTTPS support. Let’s find out what these features are and how they can help a DevOps Engineer.
Route53 Health checks support both TCP and HTTP endpoints. Route53 would attempt to establish a TCP connection in both options. This connection must be established within four seconds. Route53 expects a HTTP 200 status code or higher (but not more than 400) in the response to establish that the resource is safe.
Support for HTTPS
Route 53 supports HTTPS, which will make resource health checks easier than SSL. Route 53 is similar to HTTP health check. It establishes a TCP connection over port 443 (default). Before HTTPS support, web servers that had SSL enabled needed to serve at most one page over HTTP to pass the health check.
Matching String
You can now specify a string that Route 53 will need to look for in the HTTPS or HTTPS health check response to determine if the instance is healthy. There are many opportunities for DevOps Engineers to improve the availability and performance of the application.
As a Route53 end point, you could have an application status page (say status.php). This page could be used to check the server’s health, application connectivity, and other pertinent internal health checks. It also allows you to update a string that would indicate that the server has been healthy. Route53 would then look for the string to determine if the resource is healthy. DevOps engineers could increase the availability by performing multiple status checks in one operation and then provide the same input to Route53. The string must appear within the first 5120 bytes in the response body.

AWS Inspector is a service that tests the network accessibility of your Amazon EC2 instances and the security status of your applications running on those instances. It checks for security vulnerabilities and potential threats and assesses the target EC2 instances. Install an agent on the target EC2 instances (s) to leverage Amazon Inspector.
Let’s take a look at the new AWS Inspector. This vulnerability management service was launched in 2015 and has been phenomenal. It began to age over time and was beginning to fail in some fundamental ways. We now use new services in AWS cloud. It was completely redesigned and relaunched last spring as an updated AWS Inspector.
Amazon Inspector’s agent will monitor your EC2 instances and collect telemetry information about the network, file system, processing activity, and other details. You will need to create an assessment template, select rules and choose the test you want to perform.
Amazon Inspector can be fully automated via an API. This allows you to integrate security testing into your development and design processes.
Architecture Diagram for AWS Inspector
The newer version is superior to the original version for three reasons.
Top Features
Easier to deploy:
AWS inspector now leverages AWS Systems Manager agent. This agent is commonly deployed on almost all AWS-managed AMIs. It can also be integrated with AWS Organizations, allowing you to deploy and enable AWS Inspector across your accounts in one click.
Continuous scanning:
The traditional approach required that resources and workloads be explicitly identified in order to include them in the assessment. They could take 15 minutes, 30 minutes, or 24 hour to complete. The user then had access to the assessment’s results. This method was slow and inefficient. The modernized AWS Inspector detects the resources and begins scanning them continuously.
Container Image scanning
Amazon Inspector scans container images stored in Amazon ECR for security vulnerabilities. This generates Package Vulnerability findings. Amazon Inspector allows you to scan the registry for vulnerabilities in both programming languages and operating systems.
AWS Inspector’s Benefits
It integrates security testing into your development, deployment, or production processes
Identify security threats and issues that require attention and recommend the corrective actions.
An automated vulnerability detection service that is near-real-time with continued scanning and discovery
To manage, configure, view, and report on all accounts of your organization, create a Delegated Administrator account
The Inspector risk score includes contextual and meaningful information about each finding. This makes it easier to prioritize responses.
A dashboard that displays Amazon Inspector coverage metrics shows accounts, Elastic Container Registry repositories, and EC2 instances. Amazon Inspector scans these items.
Integrate with AWS Security Hub or Amazon EventBridge to automate workflows and ticket routing

Conclusion
We have covered AWS inspector’s overview, working, features and pricing model in our discussions so far. I encourage you to read the official documentation of AWS to learn more about the AWS inspector service. If you have any questions or doubts about AWS Inspector security and
